Rural Ashton and Sandy Spring

Dear Friends of PreserveAshton.net:
On behalf of the Steering Committee, I would like to thank all of you for your ongoing interest in and support for appropriate development at the SE corner of the crossroads in Ashton.  I have heard from Planning Board staff that they are expecting their inboxes to be overloaded with letters opposing the size and scale of the proposed Ashton Meeting Place.

On a more URGENT note, we do ask you to write a letter to the Gazette by noon today, if you have time.  If not, please write one for next week's deadline. These letters do get read by our neighbors and help educate them about the issues surrounding the proposed Ashton Meeting Place.  They also alert the press and the Planning Board staff just how large and growing the opposition to the current proposal is.

Your letters, due NOON ON FRIDAY TO BE PRINTED IN THE NEXT GAZETTE must be 200 words or less, include your name, telephone number and address, and may be emailed to Georgia MacDonald at gmacdonald@gazette.net.

Of course, we encourage you to speak your mind. IF you are looking for points to make, you can see more on the website, but they might include:
over 285 attendees last night, and over $900 raised
AMP proposed grocery store is about 1.5 times the size of all the buildings in the Ashton Village (at NW corner where the 7-11 is)
Conflicts with the Master Plan's overall recommendations for preservation of rural village character, as well as its specific guidelines for traditional, small-scale design, with "active fronts" on the main street (MD 108).

Thank you all for caring so much about preserving the best of the past to help shape the future of Ashton and Sandy Spring.
Sincerely,
Brooke Farquhar
