The SSARPC (PreserveAshton.net) supports development in Ashton that conforms to our Master Plan. We are pro-Master Plan; not anti-development.

Dear Friends,

Since September many members of SSARPC – PreserveAshton.net have spent thousands

of volunteer hours trying to communicate and work toward a compromise with the developers

of Ashton Meeting Place.  By now you have seen or heard about the “new” AMP plan.  At first,

we, the steering committee of the Sandy Spring Ashton Rural Preservation Consortium (SSARPC)

were exhilarated because it looked as if our voice had been heard for creating an appropriately

sized center for our rural town. Unfortunately, while it appears as if things have changed,

THEY HAVE NOT.

The latest drawings by the developers have been clearly created to mask the same old plan.

The rendition of Rt. 108 that has been circulated is done to mislead people into thinking that

there are actual storefronts, while they are not. The plan for a 35,000 sq. ft. grocery store with

the 220+ ft. wall along Rt. 108 remains and the 97,000 sq. footage has not changed.

While the developers send out messages that they are moving forward with their plan, please

know that there is still much that we can do together as a community to present and support

another choice for where we live.  Montgomery county encourages citizens have a voice in the

development of commercial land.

Please join us on Thursday, June 22nd from 7-9pm at the Sandy Spring Meeting House

to hear about and view a 3D model of a vision for our town that supports the Master Plan while

at the same time respects the needs of our growing community.  Town Planner Stu Sirota will

be there to present and answer questions and hear your ideas regarding this exciting visionary design.

There is much to do before the Park and Planning hearing. You have a choice in this matter.

Come see what wonderful alternatives are possible!

                                    VISIT  PreserveAshton.net for more information

Hope to see you there.

In Peace,

The Sandy Spring Ashton Rural Preservation Consortium
