Town Meeting Rescheduled

The SSARPC Steering Committee has decided to reschedule the November 29th Town Meeting until Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Sherwood High School, starting at 7 PM.  The reasons for the decision are:

  • Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett is having a town meeting on the 29th to hear from the people in this area.  His meeting is being held at the Sandy Spring Fire Department’s Ballroom on Brooke Road and starts at 7:30 PM.  The Steering Committee realizes that people will want to attend both meetings, so we decided to make the decision easier for our community.
  • The Ashton Meeting Place (AMP) developers submitted their updated plan to the Montgomery County Park and Planning Commission on October 26th.  The Park and Planning commission has some questions concerning the plan, and the SSARPC Steering Committee would like to have more information about their concerns prior to holding the town meeting.

We hope that you are able to attend the Ike Leggett meeting where you’ll be able to speak with SSARPC Steering Committee members about any questions that you may have.

There are two other upcoming events:

  • Sunday, November 26th:  Baked goods sale at the Sandy Spring Fire Department’s Ballroom (Brooke Road), from 1-4.
  • Sunday, January 21st:  Dinner to honor some of the workers who have donated their time or have reduced their rates to support SSARPC.

If you have questions about either of these events, please send email to ssarpc@preserveashton.net

Community input is needed so that the SSARPC Steering Committee can make sure that the community ideas are brought forward for consideration.  How can you give input?  There are a number of ways:

  • Attend the town meeting on January 4.
  • Meet with your local associations or groups, vote on what you would like to see, and let the SSARPC and Montgomery County Park and Planning know of your recommendations.
  • Send electronic mail to SSARPC at ssarpc@preserveashton.net
  • Send your opinions to Montgomery County Park and Planning: Mr. Michael Ma; Development Review; MNCPPC; 8787 Georgia Avenue; Silver Spring, MD 20910; email: Michael.ma@mncppc-mc.org
  • Send a signed letter to The Gazette; Editorial Department; 1200 Quince Orchard Road; Gaithersburg, MD 20878; email: gmacdonald@gazette.net .  The letter should be limited to 200 words.  Letters received by Friday at noon will be considered for the following week.
